MAY 2019

It’s been a while between newsletters – this much we know.

Bay Grocer

Much has happened in the early part of 2019 – we opened a grocery store! Yeah we did! We painted some walls, smudged some good vibes, knocked out a window or 2, then filled the shelves. We are proud to now be the operators of Bay Grocer at the Tennyson St roundabout in Byron Bay. You’ll find us there from 6.30am 7 days a week – we have a little café out the front with a plant filled courtyard and our ever present planter boxes overflowing with flowers and herbs. David is in the kitchen doing that thing he does with focaccias and doughnuts and slinging out Byron’s most delicious sandwiches and salads – Sato is on the bake – her quickly becoming famous Japanese cheesecake, sensational eclairs and occasionally a crazy thing or 2 like todays toasted green tea roll with adzuki bean paste and custard. Su-bl-ime! Inside – we have stocked the shelves with Byron’s finest local produce – From Byron Bay Crackers to Salumi Australia, Grumpy Grandma’s olives, fresh organics from Boon Luck Farm and absolutely everything in between, we are proud as ever to fly the local produce flag for the incredible pool of talent in the Northern Rivers. Alongside all the local goodness, you’ll find a beautiful selection of some of the best bites in the world – Portugese sardines, French cheeses, Spanish olive oils and Italian passatas. Keeping it real – you’ll also find your everyday staples – milk, eggs, juice, bread, avocadoes and beef mince. And yes, toilet paper. True. As we like to say...”Things you need. Things you want. Everyday.”

Take home meals

And in grocer updates…we are now pleased to bring you our take home meals. Cooked by us, with love – you’ll find lasagne, eggplant parmigiana, butter chicken and a selection of soups in the fridge. New selections landing this week – spinach and ricotta cannelloni, and 5 spice braised pork belly. Heat and go. Life made easy!

Mother’s Day at Bay Grocer

If you’ve left your planning late, we are here to make you look good. Bring mum in for coffee and pastries – or leave her snoozing and pop down for Bangalow Sweet Pork bacon, Organigrow eggs and a loaf of Bread Social sourdough – then swing back home and treat mum to breakfast in bed. We can help with flowers, gifts – chocolates, cookbooks, keep cups, beautiful Mayde teas with the prettiest ever tea canisters – or the ultimate convenience – one of our gift vouchers. Check in with our lovely staff on our special gift and picnic hampers for Mother’s Day too – we’ve had a fun time putting these together and know you will love them.

Dog Mother’s Day at Bay Grocer

That’s right! From 10am on Sunday May 12th, you will find the fabulous Donna from ‘I Love a Dog’ on site offering witty conversation and tasty dog treats – to the dogs of course. Roll on up, bring your fur friends and listen to the incredible stories and research behind Donna’s gorgeous products – meal additives, supplements and treats to give your dogs all the nutrition they need and guard them from nasties. Donna will be showing you how to use her products, handing out samples for the furries to enjoy on the day and for their humans to take home for later. There’ll be plenty of surprises and we don’t doubt, fun – and we (Bay Grocer) will be giving away one of our hampers – 1 ticket in the hat for each doggy product you purchase on the morning. The prize gets drawn at 12. Come and join us – bring Fido and Daisy and Butch (on a lead please) and let’s show dog mothers and their pups the love they deserve. “Feed them like you love them.”

100 Mile Table

Well that’s enough about that grocer place – at 100 Mile Table, wedding season has kicked back in and we are off into the hills armed with fresh new menus and a good attitude to boot. We love helping people celebrate and whether it’s an elegant dinner for 100  on the outskirts of Clunes – or 30 food lovers around our long table at the café for a private birthday dinner, we love to feed and nurture. If you need us, you know where to find us.

In good café news – the return of our hot chocolate with coconut cream is imminent! And the chicken and ginger congee is still going strong! Swing by and give Ben, Kate and Meghan a cheerio.

Oh…stand by for some dates of upcoming pop ups too – remember Il Tavolo? Yep…that one, with David…plus a DUK pop up by Bryce (because we miss it!!!)

Stone & Wood

We’ve been running the food gig down at Stone & Wood’s glorious new brewery on Ewingsdale Rd now since they kicked off in late 2018. The crew have been receiving constant accolades for the great food they are punching out. Craig, Brodie and ‘team brewery’ are creating the perfect beer matched food – brewers boards championing local produce, Asian influenced burgers, salads, curries and braises and future icons like tapioca crusted potato scallops with miso ranch.

June 8th sees the return of Festival of the Stone – the biggest gig on the Stone & Wood calendar. We cant wait! Stand by for further details.

Thanks for listening folks – sorry for the gap in communications – we will get much better at this now! Have a terrific year ahead,

Sarah, Jeremy and all our crew. x
